Jaimie is currently a Graduate Research Associate under Dr. Andrea Ludwig, working towards a Master of Science in Biosystems Engineering (BSE). Her graduate program involves interning with Facility Services and working under the supervision of Garret Ferry, Stormwater Coordinator. Her research is looking at ecologically-friendly alternatives to rip rap to stabilize shorelines and streambanks, protect water quality in the Tennessee River, and provide aquatic habitat. She is in the second semester of her program and is currently building the “Living Shoreline” at the Holston Unit of the East Tennessee AgReserach and Education Center. She has worked tirelessly to help coordinate construction activities at the field site, source materials, and operate heavy equipment to make this project happen, all while completing graduate classes and composing her research proposal. The outputs of her work will help create more sustainable and ecologically-functioning shorelines not only on UT property but also throughout the state as Extension publications will be produced to put the technology into action in other communities.
