ESS 494/593 is a 3 credit hour summer mini-term study-abroad course open to both undergraduate and graduate students. The program take place over May 18 – June 7, 2024. Student will meet in Budapest, Hungary on May 18 and travel throughout Croatia until June 7th learning about digital agriculture and circular bioeconomy systems in European agricultural production. Students will learn through both classroom lectures by university faculty working in the digital agriculture field and experiential learning during visits to Croatian farms and agricultural processing facilities utilizing digital agriculture in real-world settings. In addition to digital agriculture educational tours, participants will also visit these five UNESCO World Heritage Cultural and Natural sites: Buda Castle and Castle Quarter in Budapest, the Old Bridge in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Old City of Dubrovnik, Croatia, the Historical Complex of Split, Croatia, and the Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia. The program will be based out of J.J. Strossmayer University in Osijek Croatia, but will include educational programs at Zadar University and Zagreb Agricultural University as well as cultural programs at various locations in Croatia.
