VA Tech wins 2021 Southeastern (SE) Collegiate Soils Contest!

The 2021 Southeastern (SE) Collegiate Soils Contest was held by The University of Tennessee, Knoxville from October 4 to 7, 2021. Teams from Clemson University, Middle Tennessee State University, North Carolina State University, Tennessee Tech University, University of Georgia, University of Kentucky, University of Tennessee – Martin, Virginia Tech and West Virginia University took part in the event. Teams practiced from Monday to Wednesday at the East TN AgResearch and Education Center and at the Forest Resources Research and Education Center.  Monday evening the teams met in the cadre of an outdoor picnic at the UT Gardens. The actual contest was on Thursday at the East TN AgResearch and Education Center’s Organic Crops Unit. The individual results were: 1 – Clare Tallaney (VT), 2- Will Fleming (WVU), 3- Adam Devlin (VT), 4-Devon Griffin (Clemson), 5- Ben Atkins (VT), 6- Chris Murphy (NC State), 7- Cady Kurz (Clemson), 8- Caroline Gilmer (Clemson), 9- Kate Johnson (VT) and 10- Bernie Franz (VT). The top finishing teams from this contest that will represent the SE region at the 2022 National Competition to be hosted by Ohio State University are: 1 – VT, 2- WVA, 3 – Clemson, 4- NC State, and 5 – Georgia. Next year’s 2022 SE Regional Soils Contest will be at Clemson University.
