2024 Annual Awards Banquet

The 2024 Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science was held on April 10, 2024. All efforts were made to have a zero-landfill event, with compostable plates, cutlery and cups, cloth napkins and table settings. Flowers picked from East Tennessee sites were placed in re-usable glass containers. Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science is a department with over 425 undergraduate and 35 graduate students; therefore, receiving an award is no small feat! The evening’s student awardees were: Abby Worth (Burk Family Scholarship); Melia Hamm (William E. Hart Scholarship); Oliva Muntz  (Marlay A. Sharp Award); Evelyn Hedrick (Travel Abroad); Jessica Goddard (Top Underclass Scholar in Environmental & Soil Sciences); Joshua Hyde (Top Underclass Scholar in Biosystems Engineering); Braylon Haubert (Top Underclass Scholar in Construction Science and Management); Jessica Barks (Top Upperclass Scholar in Environmental & Soil Sciences); Evan McFarland Top Upperclass Scholar in Biosystems Engineering); Tate Kerns (Top Upperclass Scholar in Construction Science and Management); Will Hatcher (Professional Promise in Environmental & Soil Sciences); Aaron Eimers (Professional Promise in Biosystems Engineering); Kade Correll (Professional Promise in Construction Science and Management); Facundo Lussich (Graduate Student with Professional Promise in Environmental & Soil Sciences); and, Jaimie Armitage (Graduate Student with Professional Promise in Biosystems Engineering). Departmental student club presidents were recognized and thanked for their service: Emily Whitley (UT Student Chapter of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers); Colby Watson (UT Construction Science Club); and Gracie Orrico and Penelope Roccia (UT Women in Construction Club). The faculty and staff awardees were: Dr. Andrea Ludwig (Outstanding Service); Dr. Rachel Wooliver (Outstanding Professional Staff); Lesia Rucker  (Outstanding Support Staff); Dr. Jennifer DeBruyn (Outstanding Research Faculty) ; Dr. Lori Duncan (Outstanding Extension Faculty); Dr. Michael Essington (Outstanding Teaching Award in the Environmental and Soil Sciences); Daniel Sain (Outstanding Teaching Award in the Construction Science and Management); Dr. Daniel Yoder (Outstanding Teaching Award in the Biosystems Engineering); and Dr. Carmen Agouridis (Distinguished Alumnus). All in all it was a great evening and an excellent opportunity to recognize students, staff and faculty.
