Faculty in the Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science are partnering with the Department of Microbiology and several environmental groups on efforts to protect and improve the water quality of East Tennessee’s prized Tellico Lake. UTIA’s contributions include monitoring for algae blooms and identifying sources of nitrogen and phosphorous flowing into the lake, as well as determining how to mitigate them.
